2. Table of Publication of individual Parts Issue.

The following table, extracted from Hodson (1984) shows the “not earlier than” dates for each county. Hence, the Devonshire section could have been bound separately as early as 1716 but Yorkshire would not have been available until the series was completed in 1731. Thomas Cox had started selling counties with title pages in 1730 as Compleat History of … (advert in Issue 82). However, there was nothing to stop a collector or subscriber making their own arrangements to bind “their” county. The number of individual bindings labelled “Cox´s [county]” probably points to this happening quite frequently.

Ward and Chandler bought 36 sets of the 6 volumes as well as between 108 (No. 46) and 1085 (No. 23) copies of the separate Issues at auction and by printing 100 copies of Issue 1, which had run out, could have sold almost 150 complete 6-volume sets. Hodson believes many county booklets stem from this time and except for rare exceptions lack title pages. All counties except those with less than c.150 copies of the relevant Issues were offered for sale.
